The Mixed Bag

I read this today from The Language of Letting Go:

"Life is challenging.  Sometimes, there's more pain than we asked for; sometimes, there's more joy than we imagined."

That is one description of the Ragamuffin life.  If I'm not careful, I get caught up in the "pain" and it overshadows the "joy."  It is a mixed bag.  My goal for today is that in emptying the bag, I take out all of the contents, not just the pain.

What is your plan for today?

  2. I try to think about things eternal and not things temporary when the pain hits. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much.

  3. I'm not sure I understand "emptying the bag." There is beauty in the tension between our pain and our joy. We live in the contrast between very many tensions that it seems God created into this life. To empty these would be to miss out on both completely, but I wonder if you're talking about a metaphore that Manning is using?

  4. By "emptying the bag" I mean that I don't run from its contents. That I open them up and place the pain and joy out where I can appreciate it rather than simply partake of the joy without embracing the pain. Wow! That's pretty good stuff! :)
